Jon Western Obituary – Death, Is Jon Western Dead ? – Jon Western, who served as Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty at Mount Holyoke from 2016 to 2020, who also served as the Carol Hoffmann Collins ’63 Professor of International Relations and the Five College Professor of International Relations, has passed away, according to reports from a genuine source on Sunday, the 30th of January 2022.

The deceased was the Faculty’s Chief Academic Officer at Mount Holyoke College, and he was also Western served as the Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty From 2016 to 2020. Western had his M.P.P. degrees in Political Science and Russian Area Studies from Macalester College and also received a bachelor’s degree and Ph.D. PhD in Political Science from Columbia University.

West also had a hand in the college’s 10-year reaccreditation to the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, led tenure track expansion, introduced new policies on diversity, equity and inclusion for faculty search, he also handled the development of Fimbel Maker and the Innovation Lab and also contributed to increasing the proportion of students under the age of 20 across the school from 65% to 75%.

West’s tenure, also saw the college achieve various goals with the likes of developing a new film, media and theatre department, a new data science major, and new minors in Organizations, Entrepreneurship and Society, all being parts of the records of his great achievements.

In 1992, Jon Western was a Balkans and Eastern Europe analyst for the State Department’s Bureau of Intelligence and Research and together with his colleagues at the State Department and the CIA discovered great proofs of war crimes, which includes ethnic cleansing, which was committed.

West resigned on August 6, 1993, a week after the resignation of Marshall Freeman Harris, the State Department’s “chief expert on Bosnia, he also stepped down in protest of U.S. policy. He was a great man and will be greatly missed by all who benefitted from his generosity and love for mankind.
