Dave Monnot Death – Obituary: The Ohio State football program is mourning the loss of a former player. Former Buckeyes offensive lineman Dave Monnot has died at the age of 50 after a battle with brain cancer, according to a report Monday by the Canton (Ohio) Repository.
Monnot played at Ohio State from 1991-93, and he served as a starting guard for three seasons. In 1992, Monnot helped lead the program to a Big Ten championship.
In that 1993 season for the Buckeyes, Monnot helped pave the way for running back Raymont Harris, who ran for 1,344 yards and 12 touchdowns in 12 games. Ohio State went 10-1-1 that year and averaged 198.4 rushing yards per game.
ot only was Monnot a stalwart on the offensive line at Ohio State, but he was also a legend at his high school, Central Catholic. After an illustrious high school career, Monnot would eventually be inducted into the Stark County High School Hall of Fame. Former Central Catholic head coach Lowell Klinefelter told the Canton Rep what kind of impact Monnot had.
“Dave was a heck of a player for us,” Klinefelter said. “He also had a great family. He and his family were big supporters of the program and did everything we ever asked. We thought the world of Dave. We were very proud of him.”
Monnot stayed involved with his high school program long after he left. Current Central Catholic head coach Jeff Lindesmith said Monnot would often come back and teach the players about being better football players and people.
